Merger abandoned after Antitrust Division of USA Justice Department filed suit to block merger

Planned merger between Quad Graphics and LSC Communications abandoned

The USA Department of Justice has announced that Quad Graphics Inc. and LSC Communications have abandoned their planned merger after the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department filed a suit to block the merger. According to the press release of the USA Justice Department the merger would combine the only two significant providers of magazine, catalog, and book printing services, and thus “would have harmed competition that benefits publishers, retailers, and, ultimately, consumers through lower prices and greater availability of printed products”. Quad Grapics Inc. offers printing services (including gravure) to produce magazines, catalogs, and books, and has earned revenues of approximately US-Dollar 4,2 billion in 2018. LSC Communication – formerly R.R. Donnelley – offers similar services including magazine, catalog, and book printing. Their revenues in 2018 were approximately US-Dollar 3,8 billion.
