ERA´s ProTiefdruck / ProGravure meetings took place digitally on 16 February (German language) and on 24 February (English language).

ProGravure/ProTiefdruck kick off meeting

Major subject was the chromium trioxide authorization of the CTAC submission, which covers our industry. To get their individual authorization each downstream user has to notify the use of chromium trioxide for each plant online with ECHA via REACH IT. The deadline for the notification is 22 March 2021 (3 months after the publication of the decision of the CTAC submission by the EU Commission. ERA has mentioned in previous information as date 18 March 2021, 3 months after the decision by the EU Commission on the CTAC submission. In any case the notification should be made as early as possible.).

The safety data sheets with authorization number and exposure scenario will be delivered by the supplier of chromium trioxide to the downstream users until 18 March 2021 at the latest. The safety data sheets include the authorization number and describe the exposure scenarios with the risk minimization measures to be taken by the downstream user. The latter has to be carried out until 18 June 2021 at the latest.

The CTAC authorization expires on 21 September 2024.

For the time beyond 2024 Kaspar Walter has submitted the ChromeXtend application at ECHA. ChromeXtend only covers the gravure industry which makes it more transparent and easier for ECHA and the EU Commission to decide upon the authorization, as it was the case with CTAC. Provided the application will be approved, the authorization will run at least until 2030.

Optionally downstream users could continue to cooperate with CTACSub to get a prolongation. In case of interest the downstream user should get in touch with the lawyers of CTACSub to register by 31 March 2021 at the latest – ReachTeam@jonesday.com

Concerning ProTiefdruck/ProGravure the themes sustainablity of the gravure process and communication of the environmental strengths of gravure were identified as the most relevant subjects to be tackled by the industry.

ProTiefdruck/ProGravure will take up these subjects at it next meeting which is planned before the summer break.
